Community Learning 

Before leaving the nursery, the children create their own risk assessments  together as group where they talk about the possible dangers they could find within the local community and ways in which we can use control measures to limit the dangers. The children wear high vis vets when out in the community alongside the staff members to allow everyone to be easily seen and of a sense of belonging between the staff and the children. The children in both rooms use the SIMOA elephant as a reference when learning about outdoor and community safety. The SIOMA elephant allows for the children to have a character reference when learning how to risk assess and stay safe in the community. SIMOA is a Care Inspectorate refence which helps the children learning using the SIMOA abbreviation. SIMOA stands for Safety, Inspect, Monitor, Observe and Act.
